Communication Devices

Radiocap (Cap microphones)

The radiocap. First picture, with the mic in up position. Second picture: with mic down.

The cap mikes are miniatures transceiver systems built into the officers' uniform caps, with drop-down microphones (on the left-side of the face) which allow communication. Speakers are built into the cap, near the officer's ears.

This communication device is universal. The Spectrum officers can not only contact each other and any Spectrum personnel or facility, but anyone around the World, whatever the device used, provided they know the radio wavelength.

The caps are activated by an electrical impulse, triggered by the initial radio carrier-wave, directed from the Control Tower on Cloudbase, which activates the electronics and operates the microphone.

Another part of the officer's communications system are the uniform epaulettes.  These are-gas-filled "flash-tubes", which light up with a certain colour, coded to the name-colour of whomever the officer is in communication with.

The cap microphone is also able to make security wave-band changes, as given in each officer's code-book.

Spectrum security personnel and ground staff troopers and cadets do not have a radiocap, although they carries a personal communicator on their person.

Like the cap microphone, the personnal communicator can make security wave-band changes.

Personal communicator

Personal communicator pic

Captain Scarlet with a personal communicator in 'Model Spy'.

When a Spectum agent is on leave and away from base, or undercover for a mission, or simply out of uniform he or she carries a portative radio emitter on his/her person. This way, he keeps contact with Spectrum at all time.

Spectrum security personnel, groud staff troopers, cadets, undercover agents, members of staff in various Spectrum offices also carry a personal communicator.

The personal communicator is always discrete. It generally takes the form of a pen-like device. It is sturdy enough, and can be tucked away in a pocket or a purse. The communicator is also fitted with a tracking device, which enable Spectrum to know of the agent's location at all time - unless the communicator gets broken.

For colour-coded officers, the personal communicator is encoded with the same wavelengh as the cap, so that when in use, it can trigger the interlocutor's uniform epaulettes, or the light from Colonel White's desk, with the caller's colour-code .

Radio glasses

Radio shades

The radio glasses (or radio spectacles, radio shades, etc.) take the form of a pair of glasses, generally shades, into which miniature transceivers  are built in. The device is invisible when the glasses are worn. The radio glasses can thus be used when undercover, so the wearer can communicate with another agent and receive orders and/or instructions without anybody else in his company noticing it.

The build-in speakers are stong enough for the interlocutor to hear not only what the wearer has to say, but also spy on a conversation he might have with someone else.

The radio glasses override the use of cap microphones, if caps are also worn.

Some models of radio glasses can be fitted with camera, which permit another agent to see whatever the wearer see himself. Other models have a computer built into them, making them 'smartglasses' which can be useful during specific missions.
