Terrahawks was created by Gerry Anderson and Christopher Burr in 1983. After more than 10 years, Gerry was returning to shows featuring puppets, the last of which was The Secret Service, in 1969. The action of this new science-fiction series was set in then futuristic 2020, in which NASA had settled an interplanetary base on Mars. This base is attacked by the alien forces of Zelda, the main villain of the series, who considers humans to be evil and wants to rid the universe of them and of their destructive ways. All the while wanting to conquer Earth... The Terrahawks, a valiant Earth taskforce, led by Doctor Tiger Ninestein, opposes Zelda's many attempts of invasion, aboard their sophisticated vehicles and craft. Terrahawks is composed of 3 series, counting 39 half-hours episodes. In contrast of the previous Supermarionation series, which used string electronically augmented puppets, combined with closed up in live action, Terrahawks featured latex hand puppets, making the show looking somewhat cheaper. However, the absence of stings made for smoother movements for the puppets and gave a better illusion for their walking. |
