I can concur with what Hazel has already mentioned concerning the real number of viewers. I remember registering with www.viewingfigures.com last year, and for a while I was able to obtain from them free information of the viewing figures for all or most of the UK TV stations. I kept a record of the viewing figures for one of the dates when the repeats of NCS were being shown on Tuesday afternoon. Here's what I recorded for Tuesday 26 July 2005.
Total viewers - 411,000. Broken down into the following;
All adults (16+) - 322180
All Kids (4-15) - 88820
The previous 2 Tuesdays had figures of 500,000.
On 15 August 2005 I emailed Granada Ventures about this, and asked them if the 4.17million figure related to the new series or the original series back in the 1960s. By 22 September 2005 I had no reply, and so I chased them up again. I finally got a response on 28 September 2005 from Jennifer Price at Granada Media. This was her reply;
"I did pass your email on to the relevant department. I am sorry they have not responded to you, I shall chase them up immediately.
Kind regards,
Jennie"
Today, almost 1 year later, I am still waiting her response.
Nuff said...about Granada.
