Do like NCS, it's not a bad show, purely on it's own merits. Am very appreciative of the new potential in terms of character movement etc.
Even so had I seen that as an 8 year old, then I really don't think it would still hold my interest and imagination all these years down the line.
OCS has it's own very particular charm; which has obviously stood the test of time.
I love the fact it isn't so glossy and polished, it's other assorted quirk, the whole 60s' futuristic vibe. Also feel the characters are properly defined and distinct (yeah the backstory/annuals played a part, but still), they also make for good eye candy.
Really though I guess nothing can ever beat a first love, which OCS was for me.

NCS was slick and probably very well done technically speaking, but the scripts were generally poor and the some aspects of it were , quite frankly, laughable.
Yes, the original one had its moments of sheer plonking stupidity too - but that has the charm of being the first and the culmination of all that had been learned and developed in Supermarionation over the years - it had properly proportioned marionettes, excellent voices and - within the limitations of the medium - it was brilliant.
For me a cartoon version - which is what NCS is - can never compete with the models and the atmosphere of the original.
And the guys are nowhere near as good looking neither

It's rather difficult to compare the two, if you regard them as two separate entities - as I do, like many others, I believe. But if I have to vote, then my vote goes for Original, because of the long love I have with the show. BUT I do regard the new show highly.

I've defected and voted NCS. I still love the OCS universe more, though.

from the sidelines....Doc Denim raises pom-poms with enthusiasm and chants loudly :
one, two, three, four!
NCS is such a SNORE!
five, six, seven, eight!
It's OCS I do APPRECIATE!
one, three, five, seven!
OCS was made in Heaven!
two, four, six, eight!
It's NCS I love to Hate!*
Waves pom-poms vigorously and runs away fast!
Doc Denim
* PS - hate is far too strong a term, really, because NCS does not induce that sort of passion in me, but it fits the cheer....

NCS, in my opinion, has successfully developed those 60's designs and married them with a feature film standard of cinematography. Imperfections with the cgi could be pointed out, but even when the visuals get a little clunky I'm still knocked out by the camera movement, lighting and editing.
Not only that but finally Scarlet and co have interesting personalities, they have relationships, snap at one another, smile etc. OCS never smiled.
I also think (although I could be badly wrong on this) that NCS isn't going to age too badly. Sure, the cgi technology will go out of date, but I really think the sheer artistry that has gone into the show will carry it for a long time to come.

hmmm....so, she wonders very, very quietly to herself. Does that mean his custom figures move in CGI or a bit more like puppets, with jiggling hands, because either one of those things would be really, really impressive!
