I thought Christopher Eccleston was terrific as Dr Who, very sad he decided to quit, and I'm very worried about how good David Tennent is going to be, can't quite shake off the Casenova character yet.... Dalek episodes were great as always. But for innovation, a fantastic story line and for being totally unique, my vote is going to NCS!!

I just managed to see 'Dalek' for the first time in Saturday (thank you, UKTV Gold), and I was blown away by the quality of the script and the acting. There is NOTHING in NCS that could even come close to 'Dalek' or 'Father's Day' (to name two).
Caption Game results.

I'd have to disagree. Virus and Best of Enemies both had their moments. Let's not forget that NCS is billed as a children's show; I think it does extremely well, content-wise, with the constraints that imposes. Doctor Who may appeal to a younger audience but I think it's pitched at a higher age level than NCS. NCS is also shorter, which means that it's difficult to create scripts with room to breathe. However, the clincher is the fact that it's also animated, which means that the actors only have their voices to portray their character and have to rely on the artists to create the body language, which can't be easy, even with the technological advances that have been made in CGI. Grey Skulls showed what was possible in this respect but then they went and cancelled it.....

While I did not see all of the Doctor Who episodes, most of those I saw seemed cringeworthy. Some episodes seemed to suggest that the series couldn't make its mind up as to whether it was supposed to be full on comedy or drama. Take the first episode for instance - a wheelie bin swallowing up Rose's boyfriend. COME ON!!!
Also, if I am correct, Scarlet cost more than Doctor Who. Isn't it strange that a series made entirely on computers had a larger budget than a live action series? See if my maths is right - £23m for a 22 minute series across 26 episodes, compared to £10m for a 45 minute series across 13 episodes.
So it's Scarlet all the way for me.

I can't quite see what the cost has to do with the artistic merit of the finished product. It is hard enough to compare chalk with cheese as it is - and my decision was made purely on my emotional response to both series.

True, 'Dr Who' was aimed at an older audience - into which group I definitely fall - but I am sure not many of the people on this forum do fall into NCS's stated target audience.
It is up to the production team to make a show that suits its run time - and there have been several epsiodes where people have commented on the forum that the stories were 'cramped' and could have done with being 2-parters. Surely that means they were not ideal for the time they had to portray them?
Incidently, I think the humour in 'Dr Who' was what helped make it so good - there has always been humour in the best of the Doctors - IMHO. Christopher Eccleston was fantastic.
I was never sure if the 'humour' in NCS was intentional or not - and some parts of it did make me snigger.
However, I would have been extremely surprised if 'Dr Who' had won this poll - this is, after all, a forum devoted to Captain Scarlet - so the result is rather a foregone conclusion!

same for me.
While I love CS in both forms, my heart is forever Doctor Who (I blame a dalek nightmare I had in 1975)

After the initial two just-palletable episodes, Dr Who crashed like a saucer into the Thames. Ecclestone went for half-wit when the part called for child-like at most. I haven't shouted at the screen for an actor to "Stop! Please God just Stop!" since Arnie did Mr Freeze. Back into the Shallow Grave attic with you, Ecclestone...

Doctor Who was good, but in my opinion, too comedic to be special.
As for Captain Scarlet. Puppets.... Cartoons....... Need I say more...

It wasn't a show made for us Sci Fi geeks, it was made for the general public, who lapped it up.
Whilst some Whovians were lamenting the fart jokes and very human drama, everyone else wasn't thinking about it too deeply and hence, enjoying it immensely! Just like me.
As I said before, I really couldn't choose between the two. They have both far exceeded my expectations.

I was more intrigued my MJ Simpson's remarks on this thread.

I realise that what he has to say might be controversial; it's a shame we'll probably never get to know!
