GENERAL RULES FOR PARTICIPATING TO AN OPEN FORUM
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
The moderators team will monitor the forum fan fic - any inappropriate postings will be highlighted in an adjoining thread or deleted.
1) Everyone can take part at any stage of the fan fic.
2) The utmost respect should be shown for the show, the characters and the ideas behind the series.
3) In keeping with the classic series, the Mysterons normally should announce a threat and follow it - one story/one threat. It is not necessary, however, that the thread is announced at the very beginning of the story. If the story is set within the universe of the new series, the Mysterons don't need to announce their threat - but there still should still be one fan fic/one threat.
4) Read previous posts to know where the story has gone since you last looked.
5) No one steers the story for his or her own purpose. If the story is not going the way you thought it would, do not ignore parts posted by others or try to steer it back into a plotline that wouldn't fit in. Other writers have just as much right to say how the story will progress as you. No cheating... by which we mean consigning a character to sick-bay for the duration of the adventure if that character isn't doing what you wanted him/her to do - or if their presence spoils your pet plotline. If you have very definite ideas for a story then why not write it separately for posting on the site? In the same spirit, it would not be right to drag the story unnecessary longer than it needs to be, just in order to enter your own plot – especially if it doesn’t serve the existing plot.
6) Stay faithful to the characters. Remember Mysterons agents are cold, calculating and single-minded when it comes to carry on the threats pronounced by their masters – they are not supposed their own agendas. Spectrum agents are tough and intelligent and will fight the Mysterons to the death.
7) Unless otherwise mentioned, you can't kill a canon character.
8 ) If a meaningful character is created by one writer, allow that writer to decide what will be the fate of his/her character, eg. (to the extreme): don’t kill this character without permission. Or at least, discuss it with the writer, to know what is that character's importance.
9) No MarySue. Whatever the story and whoever is playing the starring role - the HEROES must be someone from the canon TV series - preferably one of the Spectrum Captains (or Colonel White or Lt Green or the Angels...) Basically no invented character can waltz off with star billing.... Although they can play a meaningful role.
10) Work with what you are given. Eg If you have been disarmed, don't suddenly find 10 grenades up your sleeve that the Spectrum agents "didn't find" - this is unlikely in the extreme.
11) You are not allowed to use an ‘alternative universes solution’ to solve problems, or strange and very convenient super-powers for your characters. Other than those already possesses by Captain Scarlet of course – and by the Mysterons. The Mysterons have powers we do not hope to comprehend... That can be useful at time, but they seldom lend these powers to their own agents.
12) Know the equipment you're using - eg SPVs are not going to start climbing walls and they are extremely well armed and armoured. You can’t make it explode with a handgun.
13) Enjoy yourself and allow others to enjoy themselves.
NOTE: Other specific rules are not obligatory in the case of a 'private forum fanfic' (PFF) or a 'plot-controlled forum fanfic'(PCFF) (see information on this forum). However, it is recommended that instigators of those particular kind of forum apply their own set of rules, so to avoid unwanted development within the story created. The previous rules MAY apply too, as basic rules, if there is a wish for it. However, the participants of PFF and PCFF can add to the already existing rules or removing some of these rules that they will judge restrictive to their own story.
It would therefore be important that the instigators of these forum fanfic (who would act as moderators to their own forum) agree beforehand to their own set of rules, and that any new members who would eventually come to participate to such already existing forum fanfic will also agree to abid to these rules. Said rules are not etched in stone, so they could be changed, following the agreement of the instigators of the forum. We suggest the participants to discuss such matters with the forum moderators.
