Nephew

You are all going to grin when you read this (well, I hope so)
A few months ago my husband and I made a copy of the first Captain Scarlet disc for my nephew who is 14 years old. He LOVED it!
Now he wanted the other disc's which we gladly gave him. He's so into it, he's coming up with all these ideas and ways he thinks Spectrum could beat the Mysterons.
I didin't doubt he would like the Captain, but I didn't expect this kind of reaction!! :mrgreen:

My thirteen year old daughter loves the series too. There is life in the old chap yet, it seems.... :wink:

The beauty of the series is that it doesn't date anything like as quickly as a human action series would have done - and I guess the reason for that is that all the props have to be created from scratch, so you overlook tell-tale clues like the analogue clocks and the hairstyles. Disney's Snow White is a good example of the latter: her hairstyle is presumably contemporary late 1930s, but because she's a cartoon, you just accept it as being "Snow White" style - whereas if you look at a real-life movie from the same period, the hairstyles (particularly the female ones) date it almost to within a year - even if it's supposed to be an historical epic. I remember switching on the TV in the middle of a movie recently that confused me because the costumes were all from the early 1950s, but the female hairstyles didn't quite match - they just looked wrong, though the style was apparently correct. It turned out that the scene was supposed to be a flashback from 1960 to an event that occurred eight years earlier. Viewers are incredibly sensitive to things like that, even if they don't realise it. I reckon that's the reason - or at least one of the reasons - why Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet are still getting reruns while real-life futuristic offerings from the same period like "Object Z" and "The Tomorrow People" haven't been seen in years.

...The Good Captain could be providing fun for juniors (and not so juniors!!!) for a long time it seems!

Mind you, not sure he'll be too happy about the 'old' bit Marion!

Doc..I liked your theory about the longevity of the puppet series..it's a sad fact that anything remotely associated with computers always looks incredibly dated ..although I have to say the vehicles and aircraft still stand up to scrutiny pretty well, especially the Interceptor, Maybe that's another reason why it still appeals to new viewers...

Tomorrow People..ARGHH did you HAVE to remind me?

Yes, Doc. I really like your take on my Nephew liking the series too.

What's funnier, my nephew isn't crazy about puppets in the first place and he didn't even WANT to watch the good Captain. Then the next thing I know my sister is telling me that's (practically) all he watches!! I love his "destroy the Mysterons" ideas. But then he was going on as to why we couldn't see them....I said just enjoy it!!!
