You know you're addicted to Captain Scarlet when ...
Moderators: chrisbishop, Spectrum Strike Force
You can no longer type the word 'mystery'.
You can tell whether you are going to get the full song, or just the 'Captain Scarlet' at the end of an episode just by listening to the timpani.
You swear vehemently when you realise that you've missed another episode of NCS.
You sit and obsess about the science behind retrometabolism.
You suddenly have a revelation about something discussed with fellow writers about retrometabolism months ago whilst walking away from a chemistry lecture, and lots of people stare at you.
You go 'Yes!' when the CGI series confirms some of your suspicions about retrometabolism.
You spend hours obsessing over a website and/or fanfic that earns you no money whatsoever and takes up all of your waking hours
You write fanfics throughout the night to take your mind off of things, then wonder when the sun rose.
You browse the shelves in Forbidden Planet in the hope that some piece of merchandise has appeared in the last few hours.
You read/write fanfic instead of revising for exams.
You start thinking that it would have been a disaster for the CGI series to have followed on from the SM series.
You start plotting OCS/NCS crossovers...
Caption Game results.

...you get all your Gerry Anderson stuff (including posters) which is everywhere hidden in a closet while your friend comes over.
...you try to download the first NCS episode on Dial-Up.

You use the names of bosses, childhood enemies, etc. as the names of Mysterons in your fanfic...

"Mum, do you know what this is? Red Fanta...all part of the celebrations leading up to Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet, premiering March 6"
You know you're obsessed when you convince your dad to buy a $150 set top box so you can view NCS, and then watching ABC2 for a few hours, trying to get a glimpse of trailers....

Every New Year's Day there is a big parade in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA) called the Mummers Parade. In it are clowns, homemade fancy costumes and groups of musicians playing nothing but string and reed instruments. All of them, but especially these "String Bands" are decked out in Mardi Gras-style glitter, spangles and feathers.
A few years ago I noted that one of the String Band captains was named James Magenta. Of course through all the ostrich plumes and makeup you couldn't see his face, but I thought it was a bit over the top even for our favorite Irish-American...

* I've spent a good while totting up how many people I know with names featured in CS (and NCS too). Do actually know a girl named Harmony.
* I also seriously do think Symphony, Rhapsody etc are very pretty names and see no reason not to bestow them on future daughters.
* You consider yourself some kind of CS ambassaor and have talked several forum friends into researching the show.
* You've also launched into unprompted explanations of the show when other friends have made the mistake of admitting they like the name Scarlet.
* You sit there with tears streaming down your face because you've decided to kill off a canon character in your fanfic. Even though the rational part of your brain is insisting 'they're just puppets!'
* You've stopped listening to that part of your brain.
* You start reading way too much into the subtexts and become convinced the mysterons are actually a metaphor for communism or something. [thank you psychoanalysis lectuers]

And I must say that I do find the CS world more interesting than ours... I can get too 'absorbed' into CS and 'lose touch' with the real world. Just thought I'd share that with you all.
I have THREE crushes (in CS) and they've not gone away... Capt. Black, Blue & Scarlet. Does that mean I'm mad???...
that's madness with a little 'm'... as in 'crazy'...

I alternate between Blue, Grey and Ochre ... depending on my mood.
The thing for Blue's been going since I was eight. The others are a bit more recent.

You were so angry when you found out your parents were going to call you 'Scarlett', but didn't eventually, you don't speak to them for days. (True story, in my case!)
You felt mortally offended when NCS finished, and wondered whether Gerry Anderson was conspiring against you.

You actually have a crush on Capt. Black??
Oh well, I guess he's not such a bad guy.......for a villain! *bracing for some boos & hisses!*
He's isn't too bad looking either. (When he's wearing his black leather jacket & shades.)
