Doctor's Fawn's origins

The Captain Scarlet annual states Dr Fawn was from Yalumba, Australia. But where was Yalumba exactly? I remember trying to find out where it was when I was a child and not having much success. Maybe there is such a place - as in town, suburb, remote outback station (farm) - somewhere .... but as an adult I now view the suggested place name quite differently.

There IS a Yalumba, in South Australia - and it's a well known winery! No doubt there's probably a large community based around the company which has been a family owned concern for 150 years, but...

Dare I suggest it might have been a favourite drop of one of people who wrote up his biography?

I know it is easy to get wine from Australia in the UK - (I've had a few bottles myself :wink:

) - but it is a relatively new thing... I doubt there was much about in 1960's Britain - when most people just did not drink wine at all.
I know someone who actually found wine from the Yalumba estate recently - and bought some - as you would... but I would suggest that in the 1960's it would have been a very rare commodity indeed!
Therefore anyone using that as location for Fawn's birthplace must have had knowledge of Australia.... or so it seems?

Agreed - it's likely they must have had some knowledge of Australia because Yalumba (as a location here) IS the winery.

I wasn't thinking solely along the lines someone in the UK must have ordered wine shipped from Oz - they could just as easily have been from Aust, visited Aust, bought a bottle from a shop ...or received a bottle for Christmas.

The unusual choice of origin for the good Doctor just suggested to me a knowledge about Yalumba Winery - especially as it's not a city that you could just look up in an Aust atlas etc and chose at random. You'd have thought a place more well known (Sydney, Melbourne etc) might have been chosen instead.

Does anyone know who actually wrote the bios? :?:

Well, Elentari, I was in my fave top-notch wine merchants in South Wales (not New South Wales!!!) looking for a good bottle of wine as a Christmas present for friends..and guess what...I stumbled upon Yalumba Barossa Shiraz 2002....from the 'oldest winery in Australia'!..so needless to say...I bought several...

I was so tickled I just had to mention it...
