I have just seen the news as reported on the BBC website:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ox ... e-20845407

This is such very sad news and I send my condolences to his family.

So much of Gerry Anderson's work was an intregal part of the childhoods - and adult lives - of so many people in the UK and abroad. I couldn't thank him enough for all the pleasure his work has given me over the past decades.
It really is the end of an era.

"Peacefully in his sleep"... well, that's good...

Gerry Anderson shaped and filled my childhood imagination. There has been no other programme maker like him. He will be terribly missed.

I guess this is the news we have all been waiting for and dreading.

So very sad, especially at Christmas. However, Gerry's legacy will live in the hearts of those who loved him and admired him. His body of work is unique in entertainment history and will not be forgotten by all the fans who continue to enjoy his shows and characters, not only on TV but on sites such as this.

All the more reason to ensure that this year's Christmas Challenge should live up to the glories of previous years; let's do Mr Anderson proud and make it a bumper crop of stories! The 2013 calendar, due to be unveiled next week, will be especially poignant.

R.I.P, Gerry. Sincere condolences to his wife and family.

This was someone who marked more than one generation, in many countries in the world, but must especially in Great Britain. Since the 60s, all of his series have been showed on television, at one time or another. On my last visit to Wales a couple of years back, it was still there on TV, for a new generation to enjoy.

R.I.P., Gerry Anderson. Many have a lot to thank you for.

You will be missed by all of us.

Such terribly sad news. My deepest condolences to his family.
What a fabulous legacy he has left us - so much pleasure already brought to generations of children and adults alike, and, I am sure, it
will continue to do so for many more to come.
He was, quite simply, FAB.
Thank you, Gerry.

Very sad news.

I feel as though his supermarionation world has been with me all of my life.....and it's fair to say it will continue to do so. My family thought that eventually I'd 'grow out of it'. It never happened and it never will.

RIP Gerry.....and thanks.

Gerry Anderson inspired imaginations, he had the guts to be the first and only person to tell children that the good guys don't always win, he was in a constant competition with himself to improve on the last show (let's face it, he wasn't in competition with anyone else!), he brought people together - I have met some amazing people on this site.

But the one thing we all really love about him? Gerry loved to blow things up!

Bless you, Gerry, you enriched our lives and we will always be grateful for your amazing talent and imagination.

I was in Scotland for Christmas when I heard the news about Gerry Anderson's sad demise and felt strangely bereft. Like all of you, my childhood was shaped by the wonderful television programmes he created with his wife Sylvia. There will never be his like again, and it's truly the end of an era. But, as long as we keep writing and making pictures to celebrate the memory of his creations, he will never be forgotten.

Really! This is really good! Something to keep, in case it should disappear!
