Wow - stunning and thought provoking!

Does this mean Black could be freed at some point?

Four stunning episodes in a row.

I absolutely agree Shaqui. It was very intriguing and intimated that there is hope for Black yet.

The first thing I said to the missus was "Perhaps Scarlet should kill Black and Conrad may fully recover". Unfortunately she reminded me that Black has been killed several times so far (D'oh! How could I forget?!) and the Mysteron influence has always prevailed.

I put it down to Conrad being an eternal pessimist. If he believes that he can't shake off the influence, as Scarlet did, then his will will always be broken.

What do you think?

Which episodes apart from Instrument of Destruction has Black died in?

It would be interesting to see what would happen if Black and Scarlet were locked up together for a more substantial period of time. Maybe he would end up fully converted, or maybe he'd end up turning back as soon as he went outside again. Or maybe whatever signals the Mysterons send to their agents are blocked by the Rhino's armour or something similar?

The bio-organic limpet mine was cute. I want one!

Well the first thing I thought was Wheres BLue. White stated in Intrument of destruction Part 2 that Black and Scarlet are telepathicly linked so why send Scarlet in the first place and without back up. The second thing I thought was Didn't Black escape from an icy death trap in Intrument of Destruction Part 2 when that giant tank fell in the ice so why could he escape then but not now.

The one thing i did like was The Rino security system pissing off Black "Scan confirmed" "Captain Black Confirmed" "Enemy Agent Confirmd". Blacks expersion was priceless.

Oh and

Circules of Doom when Scarlet and Blue drop that bomb on him. Even though in Virus it implyed Scarlet could die from being desintigrated so how come Black can servive having a bomb fall on him.

Presumably because the Nuclear Reactor keeping Skybase afloat has siginifcantly more power than the explosives used during WWII?

Circles of Doom didn't specifically show Black dead, but presuming he was killed in the explosion, that would mean the only times he's retrometabolised it would be in the presence of large amounts of Mysteron Technology. Interesting.

Scarlet threw Black to his death at the end of Mercury Falling...but the body vanished...

Another good ep...but it could have been better. The first half could have been cut down so we could have had more scenes in the Rhino.

In fact, this is the first episode that I've really felt *needed* to be much longer...

Is it just me, or do the vehicles seem a little too light to anyone else? It's almost like they're gliding across the surface in some (particularly long) shots.

I think Black can only ever be 'presumed' dead, since there is never a 'body'! Could he have survived the fall off the tower in Mercury Falling? I seem to remember all that Scarlet found was his hat.

And I don't think there was much Mysteron technology around when he rose from the grave either.

I'm glad they've finally sorted out security in the Rhino. Bit of an expensive piece of equipment just to leave lying around unlocked! Loved the expression of Captain Black's face when he thought he'd got away with it then realised he hadn't!!

The kids liked this one too, lots of their favorite character in it -Captain Black!

Actually, this episode's vehicle used by Black really reminded me of those used in classic Supermarionation.

That went through my mind too.

Another interesting item of note was Black's equipment stored in the rhino. I remember reading that the SPVs carried equipment colour-coded to each agent and thinking that this was a bit of a daft idea - looks like they brought it back! The rhinos must have big luggage compartments for all those captains! Which brings up an interesting question - why would Black's kit be left in there anyway? Weight distribution??

Certainly an interesting episode.

First espisode I've seen in the new series and once again I am impressed - I liked the fact there is now more of a mystery about whether Black can break free of Mysteron control. The development of Captain Black's character is one of the biggest successes of the series.

Stunning imagery - but yes I noticed the road vehicles look as though they are 'gliding'. Shame Scarlet didn't use the Rhino lock down procedure in 'Trap For A Rhino'! More Russian baddies, like the good old Cold War days...

Not much Destiny, and more Captain Ochre - good news. And captain Blue seems more like his old self these days worrying about Scarlet instead of merely being the brawn. Surely the ending was cut though?!

I believe i m right in thinking that the last time a Rhino fell through the ice with Black on board,he was shown emerging from his grave again. This seems to be acting like a Lazarus pit!

That s another point to chalk up on the SPV vs. Rhino debate-although it s qualities were never displayed in OCS,the original SPV was amphibious!

I really enjoyed this episode. We need more direct Scarlet/Black confrontations.

I disagree. The fans probably desire more info about the Mysterons - and now, NOW, NOW!!!

I suspect this may be one the kiddies hate 'cos it had less action.

But frankly, I'm enjoying the level of mystery without spoiling it. It revealed enough, for now, without giving too much away for future episodes.

Best lines: "No insights from the Mysterons?" "None".

And the last line is a killer! I wasn't expecting that!

Go, John Brown, go!

It's not so much info on the Mysterons I want...just more character stuff, which this series is doing so well.

No comment so far on the opening credits being cut...presumably MOM did that...

Loved this one. I echo the sentiments that I too wished that it was a bit longer.
Nice touch with the identification in the Rhino, the look on Black's face was priceless.
Overall the series is improving with each episode.
Can't wait for the dvd's !!! :D

There was another moment where the animation of Black's face was rather fab...I think it was when Scarlet does the "You can't kill me because you need me to do xyz..." bit.

The underwater stuff was gorgeous, too...

Had a chance to watch it again, totally agree about the scenes with both vehicles sinking and the underwater scenes - excellent!! Scarlet and Black floating up from the Rhino was so believable.
