So the verdict ....

I really liked it. The 'special effects' and scenery were good. Nice to see them getting out and about, and Harmony having a part.
Liked the kung-fu granny too, nice touch. :)

It was going so well, right up until...... The ending.

Ye Gads could they have possibly made that any more cringe worthy.
Warning: do not watch on a full stomach.

Good one! For one ghastly moment when Harmony was tied up in the cottage I thought we were going to be subjected to one of those dreadful "I shan't take the obvious step of killing you right now, Earthwoman, because I want to give you the opportunity to realise how pathetic your attempts to stop us are before you die! Heh Heh Heh!*" scenes, but we weren't disappointed. It's great when the opposition manage to display at least as much intelligence and foresight as the heroes. Nice piece of scripting there.

I'm not totally sure about the final heart-tugging sequence with poor old Scarlet cradled in Destiny's arms on the tarmac, mind. To the production team, can I just say this: stay with the action scenes, guys - they're what you do best.

[* Rapidly followed by "Oh damn - she's escaped!"]

A good episode .... badly let down by too much "Paul" ....
I thought it was supposed to be Captain Scarlet not "Paul" Scarlet ....
i cringe everytime i hear "Paul" and "Adam" and "Conrad" ... christian names used too often for my liking.

I thought the first half of Trap for a Rhino effectively set up the situation while the second half paid it off in spades. There was some very smooth character animation in this one, especially the sinister old lady. Moments where she'd convey agreement with just a blink of her eyes and the merest nod were very well observed/ handled.

But the real pleasure came in the last 5 mins. No disrespect to the earlier episodes but this was the best action sequence bar none that I've yet seen in New Captain Scarlet. When you've got a Rhino heading at suicidal speed for a nuclear reactor, with Destiny, Scarlet & the plant's defence systems all doing their best to blow it to hell, then I don't care what anyone says because that is Captain Scarlet heaven. I thought it was thrilling & really got the excitement going. Also, that brief shot of a burnt, battered & bloody Scarlet lying on the ground was worth its weight in gold. I wouldn't mind a poster of that! As for the final dialogue between Scarlet & Destiny, I thought it was rather sweet. I mean I don't normally go for that stuff but in the context of Scarlet's actions I think he earned it.

Another enjoyable episode..

Things I liked :
The well rendered scenery, although I'm not sure there would be quite so many deciduous trees in the hills of the highlands... But they got the one track roads right though!!!

The scene where the Mysterons come down the chimney..ooh.I got shivers!!
The pretty much realistic Scottish accents...thank god...

Harmony kicking ass...well...until she got firmly put in her place by granny (I liked that too Sage!) : Scottish grannies are deadly...mysteronised or not!

The cadet uniform was cool...And those poor cadets..they now have to brave the chilly winds of Scotland instead of the sun and sand of Australia...shame!

Scarlet destroying the Rhino with the Hummingbird....

Things to make me go ...oops...:
Yes...that final scene....I could'nt figure out if Scarlet was being flippant or what...I sure hope it was the former....if not...then yes...cringeworthy indeed Sage... (sorry! But really...even Holly was taking the mickey I reckon!)...A shame..as the rest of the script was first-rate.

And yes..I've said it before and I'll bore everyone again with my annoyance at the incongruous use of first names.. Doesn't Scarlet like the name Simone for goodness sake???

It also seemed a bit odd that Harmony categorically refused to take the Rhino to the cottage..and yet Scarlet was dropped off in one...still..I guess the script had to get a Rhino for the Mysterons to pinch somehow...!!

3 magik words ...... KUNG FU GRANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!! .
did anyone notice the glitch. in the chase sequence just after the granny got kiked off the cliff theres a dodgy bit of scenery that appears and disappears in seconds.it kinda looks like what happens when your playing a game and there a bug in the scenery. if i can get a photo i'll post it.

great episode!!!!!! :-;)

Rest assured, the individuals responsible have been singled out and shot with BIG bullets... :D

Thanks for all the feedback! Trap for a Rhino was a particularly difficult show with a whole host of technical problems to overcome and it's great to see the effort paid off and that you all enjoyed the episode!

I'm fascinated that as a Scot yourself you should have found the accent acceptable, Carrie! It sounded to me as if the Kung-Fu Granny's voice was that of a young Englishwoman imitating a Scottish accent - but I wasn't going to comment on it because I'd assumed that tracking down an elderly woman with acting experience from the Highlands to do the voiceover would'ne be particularly easy! (Molly Weir is no longer around, but she would have been perfect for the part. "Destroys the reactor with a green tornado in half the time - and no messin'!")

Loved this immensely - a bit like that 'TV21' strip where an MSV is commandered by Captain Black and an amnesiac Captain Scarlet.

But... what happened to Harmony? Is she still tied up in the cellar?

Classic ending, similiar to "Fire at Rig 15" minus Scarlet in a SPV and the oil refinery. All the scene needed was Barry Gray's classic theme for the action.

Also, I like how the Mysterons used the rings to kill the cadet. They're getting clever in their old age, Captain Black would have been great appearing as field commander over a cadet and a rather athletic granny who almost got the better of Scarlet but obviously and fortunately did not.

"Working opposite ends of the Spectrum, you might say."

Yep, another fab episode. The inner 11-year-old ghoul in me rejoiced in the Rhino/Hummingbird carnage, while the 49-year-old cynic winced at the final dialogue exchange. Scarlet really needs to work on his deathbed (or death-tarmac)/chat-up lines.
He also needs to remember to shut the Rhino door behind him when he stops to check on injured Scottish grannies about whom he's already expressed doubts.
High point - Harmony kicking seven bells out of Johnson, then getting thrown into the wall by Granny.
However, remind me NEVER to hitch a ride on an Albatross. That launch sequence is guaranteed to induce immediate air-sickness

THATS IT!

The sooner CS:CGI gets to the West coast of Canada the better. I feel I am really missing out on the action!

Anyone know how the viewing figures are shaping up?
