Circles of Doom

Having seen the 'storyline' for this episode on the CGI website - it occurs to me that the way they defeat this plot has been done before.
There's a comic story with our heroes taking to the air in WWII planes to defeat some dastardly Mysteron scheme - forget which particular scheme it was, but I'm sure it was dastardly! :D

Is it this one on Shaqui's site?

Story Seven (aka World Power Plant Explosion!)

I swear the new Scarlet is just like the action packed TV21!

Yes, looks to be that one. I saw it in the 1990s comics.

Do we see a reference to Scarlet's nausea in the presence of Mysterons here for the first time - or is it the 'power surge' that triggers his 'feeling awful'?

Liked the colonel's joke at the end - its the first time in ages the programme's made me laugh! :-D

And was that 'Bomber' Harris from 'Joe 90' at the controls of the Lancaster? I'd recognise that 'tache anywhere!

:-D

Okay, got to ask Aegis or Craig this now... was the air display a nod to the 'Angels' strip, and their cover as a team before joining 'Spectrum' proper?

:D

I certainly remember something like an air show in the Angels strip.

An impressive episode, in some ways. Good to see a Lanc in it, even if the conclusion was like a Scarlet comic story from the '90's.

Which was a reprint of an original 1968 strip. :)

Hey, nothing wrong with the Scarlet comic strips! They were our lifeline between episodes in the pre-video days!

A very nice episode, I thought. Scarlet's difference being made use of at last, in his fainting spell in the cornfield (I think it’s about time someone tapped the series bible in a meaningful way… Why is this the first use made of Scarlet’s difference so far?) TERRIFIC flying sequences, and The Voice Of The Mysterons back at long, long last.

Downside - Destiny's line, "I get bored easily. So do Harmony and the rest of the girls." So - the 'rest of the girls' don't have names? At this point in the classic series, we'd met all the duty captains and Angels. Sorry - this is either very sloppy scripting, or lazy production. The characters may or may not have been ready, but not to have the universe ready is unforgivable.

So far, my rating for the series is:
Technical 7/10 - you lose a couple of points for the changing faces
Production 4/10 - the scripts are poor, the background is minimal and the website is insufficient
and Artistic 9/10 - it all looks pretty good.

It would seem so... all Destiny gets to do waggle her bum! Who IS playing her in mo-cap?

Destiny looking for sympathy?

Destiny's line, "I get bored easily."

Gee - elite career with Spectrum, flying ace, astronaut, trips to Mars....

Scarlet's gotta be wondering what it'll take to keep this girl happy!

Hey, if Destiny wiggles her bum and flutters her eyelashes at him for much longer - she's going to be finding out what he imagines will keep her happy...

Incidently - a later thought - it hasn't taken her long to get over Conrad, has it?

I have to agree with Hazel - the fact that we've never had a chance to see anyone except the Big 3 - Scarlet, Blue and Destiny - for more then a few glimpses, is getting irritating.
Most of the official Website is still locked down - there's nothing new and even if they had all the character data open - only half a dozen characters are listed.
Some of the dialogue's pretty dire and the acting isn't that inspiring. Not much caring for car chases and plane stunts, I don't find that aspect makes up for the deficiencies.
I have to say, I am rapidly losing interest in it - and judging from the paucity of comments after this last episode, I might not be the only one....

I'm still enjoying the series very much, but a couple of comments on C.o.D.

At the start, Destiny is on leave, and apparently perfoming in the air show in her own time. So are the other Angels all on leave too, and if so, who is on duty ? And if they get 'bored so easily', how come they spend most of the time hanging about in the Amber Room...................................???????????

I had to tape yesterday's episode and viewing it back, I'm sure there are a couple of continuity errors involving the Harmony bail-out sequence. In one close up, her helmet badge definitely reads 'Destiny', and in another it's disappeared altogether. I did think that, for once, both Destiny and Harmony showed a bit of apprehension, even fear, rather than their usual super coolness.

Agree with the comments above, that the website is unlocking too slowly and we are therefore unable to read about the other characters. That said, the other three Angels have hardly been seen in the last 4/5 weeks.

Destiny is in danger of being over-exposed, getting as much screen time as Scarlet and Blue, and as a result, seems to end up as the one in a life or death situation every week. Perhaps we will see her developing her astro-babe role - now we've had a WWII Lanc. surely the script writers can find a way to get her onboard say, a Russian Vostok or Soyuz !!

Speaking of Destiny's wiggle and Scarlet keeping her happy, was it my imagination, or does Scarlet seem to have his hand on her tush near the beginning of the episode. One second his left hand is by his side, the next it is behind Destiny!
