I thought it was excellent and because I recorded it, the more I view it the better it looks. A friend of mine who watched it (and is not an Anderson fan) thought that the storyline was very good, and it made him look forward to next week's episode. Even when I told him that I wished there was a bit more realism in the character's faces, he didn't worry about it as it didn't detract from the enjoyment of the show.
I can tell you that there were a few cuts made to it, perhaps (I guess) because ITV thought some of the scenes might not be appopriate for a morning timeslot where younger kids might be watching. Despite this, it still has a grown up feel to it. The nightime scene of Black's fist coming through the grave, and him standing in the rain with his Mysteron eyes is almost scary. This show aint no 'kid flick'. and is certainly something that people of all ages can enjoy.
As far as the changes are concerned, I have no problems with them (perhaps apart from the transatlantic accent of Scarlet). Apart from the fact that these things happen in all re-imaginings of past TV series, I wonder if the following possibilities may or may not be true?.
1. As Sylvia Anderson would have had a say in the characterisation of the original series, perhaps Gerry wanted to distance himself from any of her past influences when he begun preparing the new show.
2. If this series proves to be a massive success worldwide, (especially in the USA) you can bet your bottom dollar that Hollywood movie studios will come knocking on Gerry's door. Perhaps if the characters were left as they were in the original series, the studio execs would want to impose or suggest character changes for the movie. Because Gerry has already made these changes, this will not be necessary.
Can't wait for next week's episode.
