So...unless you have bought a digital TV, have signed on for pay TV which I've heard may have bundled access to any free-to-air digital stations into the package, ...or have bought a separate digital decoder (commonly known here as a 'set top box') for your existing analogue TV, you won't be able to get ABC2.
ABC2 is only advertised in a very general sense on ABC's analogue channel - not surprising as it looks like most of its content appears to be repeats of ABC 'proper' programmes. Speaking as someone who didn't plan to buy a set top box until 2008 (ie when I had no choice), having ABC2 actually screen something not telecast on the analogue service first is a very sneaky trick, and it leaves me with a decision I may have to make sooner rather than later.
If there's someone out there who is:
* on the forum,
* from Oz,
* has digital TV access,
...and who watches the ABC (which is the Govt run station), perhaps he/she can comment about advertising on ABC2. It a bit of a narrow criteria though!

Not all those people can receive all channels though, and I know some areas cannot get ITV4 yet.
Back to KP's post above I think.

A lot of the programme content on the digital versions of analogue TV channels are identical so there's not that much incentive to go digital really unless you are really keen on the new technology and want to own all the latest stuff.
