NCS and previous series
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
1. Spectrum seem to be intent on keeping the war a secret (as with SHADO in UFO), which was not apparent in OCS
2. The gull-wing car in 'Heist) is similar to those seen in UFO
3. The Mercury shuttle in 'Mercury Falling' is very similar to Fireball XL5 and the OGT in the Joe 90 episode 'Test Flight'
4. The lifting body of the Mercury shuttle and the opening screen of the shuttle in 'Mercury Falling' is very similar to that of Zero X in 'Thunderbirds Are Go!'
5. Doctor Gold seems very similar to Dr. Jackson in UFO.
6. 'The Homecoming' bears similarities to the UFO story 'The Man Who Came Back'

To be honest, as sneaky, devious, ruthless and underhanded as Doctor Jackson was, I would far rather have him as my doctor than Doctor Gold. He was also clever, witty and had great insight into the human mind. Plus, he was played wonderfully by the the late and much missed Vladek Shaybel.

I also noticed that Spectrum injects some kind of drug in to innocent bystanders who discover the truth about the Mysterons which somehow wipes rheir memory, similar to the amnesia drug in UFO.
The basic storyline of 'Touch Of The Reaper' is similar to the Space: 1999 story 'Force Of Life', although I suspect this is coincidental.
In 'Grey Skulls', Colonel White is reminiscent of Ed Straker's charatcer with what seems to be a very short temper.
There are subtle references to previous shows as well...
In 'Mercury Falling', the Mercury shuttle is named after the Supercar pilot Mike Mercury.
In 'Fallen Angels', the pirates burn a ship called 'The Four Feathers', referencing the early show 'Four Feather Falls'.

Actualy when Dr Gold injects Whites doughter he says when she wakes up she'll think the whole thing was a dream. He never says it will wipe her memory.

'Touch Of The Reaper' also seems similar to the Space: 1999 story 'Force Of Life' in some ways (with someone being able to kill with a single touch when they are affected by an alien presence).

Hmm maybe that's I haven't quite warmed to NCS. Troy Tempest drives me absolutley insane. Can't sit through five minutes of him without raging. If they remade Stingray Troy probably would even up like NCS Scarlet.
Now it's only fair to confess I'm not exactly a paying member of OCS Scarlet's fanclub either (hence me torturing and/or him in my fics). Still I'd take him over Tempest any day.
