My Custom NCS figures
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
I used enamels on these guys, a mix of gloss and matt. I like good ol' Humbrol the most. On Capt Magenta I painted acrylic over enamel 'cause their just isn't an enamel lurid enough..!
Have you done any CS customs by the way? Were the ones in the NCS magazine yours?

I use 3 & 3/4 inch or 1:18 scale nd sculpt the figures with milliput. Did the OCS set twenty plus years ago. They got me started on customising.
Incidentally, I would recommend using acrylics over enamels in most cases. Anita's or Citadel for preference. Use a white undercoat on darker colours. Plus they are a lot easier to use, brushes clean up better, they don't tend to smell as bad, and dry a damn site faster. One big disadvantage of using enamels is that some plastics do not like it and it will not cure properly, especially on some softer or more malleable materials.

Still, Mr Humbrol and his friend Revel have served me well over the inumerable years of customising, and I wouldn't want to let him down..!
Well done on the wicked customs though - really good work! Have you posted them on this site anywhere? The magazine pics are tiny!

You should post these pics of yours on one of the custumising sites. I would recommend the following site:
http://commandocustoms.com/
There are several other Brits posting on the forum over there. Join up and put some on the 'Others' thread. Your customs are definitely good enough.

In the meantime, here's Captain Steel, another non-canon Captain. And probably my last custom Captain unless I can think of some names/colours I haven't used..!

Covered all the rest... I already have Amber so Umber might cause trouble over the intercom. Lime? Cerise? They'd so get beaten up in the Spectrum playground. Plus I don't want to detract from the absurd uncool coolness of the Man Magenta. Unquestionably my favourite!
Thanks steviep! Excuse me, I'm off to the paint shop...

No Cerise? Believe it or not, Major Cerise was in charge of the Spectrum Training Academy; I had a TV21 Annual from the sixties (sadly long gone) where Cerise detailed various projects for Shades (junior agents), such as MSV mockups and soapbox go-carts.

Magnolia might be a little close to Ivory but Beige sounds promising - thanks Aegis! Now I've reworked my Captain Brown I might try that. I'm risking some serious battlefield confusion though, with Brown, Bronze, Stone, Beige...
At least Captain Tartan would stand out...

I suggest Captains Corn, Zinnwaldite and Heliotrope, with Lieutenant Linen and Colonel International Orange.
