ITV scheduling of NCS
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
One point I need to pick up on is that I don't think Granada would have any say in the scheduling of NCS. The show has been sold to Citv and I guess they can 'bury' the show where they see fit. Granada Ventures seem to be the marketing and licencing arm of Granada TV, so other than making a polite request to Citv, the scheduling is out of their hands. That having been said, judging from the email they sent to me they seem quite happy with the show being scheduled as part of MoM and don't seem to have grasped that it could have wider appeal than 'the target audience of boys aged 5 to 9'.

Unfortunately I can't really help you with you concerns. However I can confirm that all the facts outlined below about sales and promotion are correct also once a broadcaster has bought a show they are in control of where it is scheduled and when.
The head of CITV I believe is Steven Andrews however this may have changed with the latest re shuffle.
Sorry I can't be of more help
And that answer came from from Michele Fabian-Jones, who appears on the credits of NCS as being in charge of publicity!

I had also sent a copy of the email I had from Granada Ventures (see earlier entry in this thread) for GAP to comment on. Here is the answer I was sent:

Well, that clears that up then......uh, who promotes the series on DVD? Is there any promotion at all? I guess we know the answer to that now.....

Sales and marketing decisions are made jointly in consultation between the GAP group and ITVplc.
So it lookslike it is GAPs responsibility to promote the show. Which begs the question why was Gerry berating Granada Ventures for their lack of involvement in promoting the series? This really doesn't make any sense at all. Did Gerry make a mistake or misunderstand who has responsibility for promotion with the result that there was no budget to promote NCS? The whole thing is rather odd.

Some collectors and TV boxset are not easy to find around here either. When they release the original Captain Scarlet boxset in French last year, our local Walmart only had about six copies - and that was well after the release date. Needless to say that these copies quickly disappeared from the shelves...

I had no trouble in finding Lavender Castle, but haven't seen Torchy or Four Feather Falls in any mainstream shops - I had to order the latter from Sendit.com. Supercar we were able get from the local Virgin store but I don't think any other local retailers (HNV, Silvascreen, Smiths, Woolworths) had it.
The main series - Thunderbirds, OCS, UFO, Space:1999, Joe 90, Fireball, Terrahawks etc. - there was usually no problem in finding, but I haven't seen the new anniversary releases due out yet.

I've seen copies of the Thunderbirds, Stingray, Lavender Castle, Supercar, Fireball and both CSs recently. I've also seen Space:1999 around. It's not a surprise though, considing that I live in a major city...
