Why is New Captain Scarlet not on ITV today?
Moderator: Spectrum Strike Force
There's been nothing from the official website either...
I just tried the official website - it took ages to load and then the only option working was the games and puzzles section.
Hopefully this is because they are uploading new material - character biographies and plots for the new episodes - or even the merchandise information as the launch is near...?

I would rather believe the news coming from a site like Fanderson than an exchange between members a forum site, mind you:
http://www.fanderson.org.uk/news.html#Lavender
It,s a very recent news, and it says that the DVD is set for release in the Fall. I also saw the news elsewhere too, and it'll also appear on this site as well, as part of the next updates...
I don't know about the Saturday morning ratings, but considering that this Tuesday viewing was a repeat - and shown during summer - this might be a reason the series might have performed poorly.
On the other hand, I had heard they should repeat the ENTIRE RUN in the Fall, with the last 13 episodes (don't know how much it is true, mind you) so maybe they reconsidered THIS Summer repeat, and thought it might be better to wait...

Jamesmagenta quoted Lt Green's email:
Still to come in the rest of Series One are the following episodes;
Skin Deep (26th July)
Chiller (2nd August)
Trap for a Rhino (9th August)
Heist (16th August)
Achilles Messenger (23rd August)
I hope they don't intend to show the whole 13 episodes of part 1 again before they show 'part 2'! If CITV started the second 13 epsiodes after the (UK) August Bank holiday - or early in September as part of the Autumn Schedules - that would bring them very close to Christmas... useful for merchandise sales...?
Mind you - ITV haven't done CS:CGI many favours so far...

A guest 'Chris for Portsmouth' posted the following message:
Hi there,
I emailled ITV today to ask why the show wasn't aired last week, this is their reply:
Thank you for your email.
Captain Scarlet has been taken out of the schedule due to poor viewing figures. It will be rescheduled however we do not have a confirmed schedule date to offer at this time.
Kind regards,
I think they showed it too soon after the Ministry of Mayhem fiasco. Good job the DVD's will be out soon.
This confirms our worst fears - and I expect that our guest may be on the right lines with the reasoning behind the poor showing too.
I would hope that this doesn't mean that the next 13 episodes are under threat of not being shown in the autumn - or that CITV decides they have to be shown as part of the truely awful MoM...
ITV have really done the show no favours at all..

It seems to me that the DVDs are a two-edged sword. I've no doubt that most if not all of us here will buy them when they appear, but DVDs alone simply aren't going to be enough to create the momentum that the show needs to acquire if we're going to see another series. As Nebiroth comments on Shaqui's link, it's inconceivable that something this costly to make isn't going to be milked for all it's worth, so it's reasonable to suppose that the DVDs will appear in due course - but probably more as a costs recuperation exercise than a genuine promotion attempt. And wouldn't the release of the DVDs effectively scupper any chance of the show being reshown on primetime television?
I'm not optimistic - just very annoyed. The show deserves better than this.

Stange that when you visit Granada Ventures website, it says that 'Captain Scarlet has become a flagship children’s brand on ITV and the series attracted 4.17m viewers for its first episode.' Check out http://www.granadaventures.tv/index.php?content=propertyseccat&propid=1 for more info.

It needed to have had a primetime slot of it's own, with a good steady promotional campaign ahead of it's showing. It just wasn't marketed enough. While Scarlets performance in MoM was good, it had a captive audience in all the kids who watch MoM anyway. And allowing for the fact that not all of those would want to watch re-runs anyway, I think Scarlet was always going to fail to get large viewing figures for repeats.
Just remains to be seen if the imputus is there to sell lots of toys (some of which are VERY cool).
Cheers!

I've just read the above comments, and I too am cross at the way ITV has treated the new series. If I had spent all that time and effort in making what I think is a fantastic series, I would be spitting mad to see my efforts being messed around like that. I hope the production crew don't take it to heart, the series is great, as I think anyone who has seen it would agree. All I can say to them is keep up the good work, anyone with half a brain realises that any problems are entirely down to the rubbish scheduling. Maybe a few more people should email ITV and tell them that??!

As a matter of interest, does that contravene any sort of union rulings about receiving (and visibly) full credit on TV? I would have thought Equity would have had something to say about the voice artists not receiving full visible credit, but does this affect other members of the production team?
