This wouldnt have happend if the DVD sets were in the stores.
I disagree. Have you ever worked in a store, and seen large quantity of an item litterally melting like snow under the sun? I did.
If a store had ordered a huge quantity of copies of the title (and since it's been in the top sellers, Amazon, for example, might have done that) and it sells out within two weeks, it means it's a good seller, and they will order more if it's still available. All stores work the same, online or not. They probably would have more available copies at online stores, though.
Its a shame that Gerry was hoping for a 'new life' for the series on DVD and there have been so many troubles with sell outs and such
Well, if it sells out that quickly, maybe it means it's a success? I would be enclined to think so.
HMV seems to have been lazy with that title, though, if I am to believe what I read in this topic. You might consider deleting your order from them and try elsewhere? Play.com and Sendit.com still seem to have it, and Amazon should receive other copies soon.

I agree - I think the DVD sales appear to be good but I just hope that stores are stocked enough for the casual viewer this Xmas looking for presents. Its better to have too little of the product than way too much on the shelves, except for the ones still looking for them.

"I've heard on the grapevine though that you won't have to wait too long for the second DVD box set, word is it will be out before Xmas which makes sense as it would hardly sell next year when there's no TV show to support it."
This post comes from somebody who was on the original production team (Bliz-4). I don't know how reliable this is but I very much hope that he is right!

In a few years time it will be bought by the BBC and given a 6.00pm timeslot on BBC2.

That would be ideal - although didn't the show do badly at the 4pm slot?
I can see the reasoning behind releasing season 2 on DVD before Xmas. If they were going to put out the corgis, more action figures and the books and all that before Xmas then I think sales would be a bit higher than in January without any show - out of sight, out of mind. Not sure why they are doing the second merchandise launch after christmas - now is the time to push the toys!

.
That's not the impression I'm getting.
I've had the set on order from HMV for 2 and a half weeks now and I'm getting miffed with their service generally. So I thought I'd have a look at the prices for the set in the shops whilst I went out to do some food shopping this afternoon.
I went into Smiths and HMV, neither of them had it in stock, not even the cheap, single volume set.
Disheartened, I went on to ASDA.
ASDA; the Supermarket chain who've taken a full page advert on the back of the NCS comic promoting the set, and did they have it in stock? Did they *%@$!!!
It's a big ASDA too, with a large DVD mini shop on site, and the staff hadn't even heard of the title and couldn't find it in their product lists either!!!

No sign in Smiths that I could see, mind you, I didn't go looking.
