Even on VHS it was not immediately evident who the Asian Angel was
That's Symphony - you'll see all five Angels next week in Swarm

Actually I really liked the episode. The tension between Scarlet and Blue was great. As was the scene with Black and Destiny. In fact I really like her overall.
Am I the only one who has noticed the freaky similarity between Captain Black and Simon Cowell?
Only downside is the, to all intents and purposes, swapping Harmony and Symphony. Seems a bit pointless, and is really confusing.

I think that is one of my major reasons for being turned off by this version.
Either make something similiar enough to the original that viewers can take their knowledge of the original and make use of it, or make something new!
I would have preferred to see Captain Scarlet: the next generation rather than this confusing rehash.
My other major reason for being turned off? It is CGI. I hate CGI and prefer animation.
This CGI leaves alot to be desired espcially in terms of the backgrounds. I also think that the human figures' movements are worse than the original puppets.

Yeah I agree, though do like that the characters can move around more.
Captain Scarlet: the next generation would have been so cool.
Have to work on that with fanfic (already started in fact)

That is it in a nutshell - why change what doesn't need changing?
I have no problem with the CGI - although I don't find it so all conquering as some people seem to - I love the way the characters can move about more and the (often not so) subtle expressions they can use. But I don't like their faces, and I find some of their movements as jerky as the puppets!
I still have real problems with the alterations to their nationalities and their identities - and I don't expect that will change.
The stories are what will interest me - and by a little judicial re-casting in my imagination - I will have my perfect new series... complete with the characters I have liked since the 1960s.

Even as a big fan of the original, I can see why it was necessary to make the new 'revisioning' of Captain Scarlet a distinctive entity in its own right. The series is working from the ground up from the concept, not continuing the original.

The new show will never totally be it's own enity hence it being the new Captain Scarlet. So they might as well have kept enough continuty so as to throw fans of the original.
Incidentally they did kept Scarlet, Blue and Black with the exact same names (code & 'real') which makes those changes seem even more annoying/pointless.
Ah well nothing I can do about it.

One thing or the other would have been best.

In all honesty, how many viewers are actually going to know the real names and nationalities of all the original characters!? The fans who would probably comprise a very small percentage of the total audience! (admittedly, the 'Harmony/Asian' threw me initially - but not enough to ruin my overall enjoyment of the whole episode. And it was actually Kim who pointed it out to me, thinking it was a continuity error... )
For my money, I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride...

Actually, shaqui, I'm willing to bet an awful lot of them - that, admittedly, without being able to give you a percentage of the total viewers for the new series. I base that assomption on the fact that the ID pages on the Spectrum Headquarters site, according to statistics are amongst the most visited... In between 150 to 250 EACH character EACH month! The odds that it's always ONE person coming back visit after visit and month after month are slim. So I guess A LOT of people knows who those original characters are.

I desperately want to toss in my few cents on this, but as I haven't seen the new series, I can't - in all fairness - do that. But I'm afraid I do very much gravitate to what Serenity is saying here. Perhaps it doesn't matter to newcomers to the series who was or wasn't changed. But it does seem to matter a great deal to those of us who knew and loved the originals. And simply because it wouldn't have mattered, then why make the changes?
I hold out some hope that I might like the new version, but there's a part of me that still doesn't want to see it at all. That, primarily, after much soul-searching and trying to peg it down, seems to be because I wanted it so badly - I was excited to no end to think that the characters and situations from which I had derived so much sheer enjoyment - for decades I will happily admit - were going to come back with all the bells and whistles that CGI could provide it.
And then I was shocked and appalled to learn different. I still haven't managed to come to terms with the fact that precious little of what had come before was going to be resurrected. My favorites had been callously abolished. And what bits were coming back had been subjected to a total overhaul. So, I will reiterate something I've said before, because I just haven't changed my mind as yet:
1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. (Too late, I know)
2. The only thing worse than having something you love stolen from you is in getting it back broken. (Still sadly true, however.)
Perhaps Colonel White will save it in the end.....

How do you know it was callous?

Well love it as much as I do, and 'Captain Scarlet' still remains my fav of the original SM shows, I still feel it was compromised by the limitations of puppetry. In other areas it soared but it still fell between stools in my book. This is a chance to breath fresh life into a still workable concept - you can't say that about too many shows approaching 40 years in age... (thankfully, you can say it about almost all the GA shows!)

Different isn't 'broken'. Gery Anderson created the orifinal series with his team, so has more claim on it than any fan. If you don't like the new series - simple solution. Don't watch it.
I recall the hoohah over 'Star Trek The Next Generation' when it started. It fell between stools initially but evolved into a fine show over the years. We've only seen two episodes so far... the best, as they say, we're told is still coming. Give the new series the chance to prove itself.
