Star Maidens

Can anyone confirm that Sylvia Anderson actually had an hand in the production of Star Maidens? A British/German collaboration, it was a short-lived Sci-fi TV series, that was produced in-between season of Space: 1999. Rumours have it that Sylvia was involved with it, but I could find no real indications on the net that it was the case - or not. And if it's not the case, where do those rumours come from, anyway?

For those who doesn't know, the series tells the story of Medusa, a planet on which women are the leaders and the men are reduced to do menial jobs (and could nearly be considered as slaves). This matriarchal society will clash with a clearly different one when two men, having had enough of this, will flee to Earth...

The series is due to be released on DVD in October. There's only 13 episodes of it, and I remember having seen a handful of those episodes a long time ago.

She had nothing to do with it Chris - the main Anderson connection was designer Keith Wilson, who worked on 'UFO' and 'Space:1999'. The rumours may have started because Sylvia is credited with designing the 'Century 21' fashions for 'UFO', which were actually by him. Perhaps someone put 2 and 2 together and got the infamous 5...

Here's a sample from YouTube for anyone who missed it - as I did - at the time. Having Blake turning up in it right at the end seems rather surreal, doesn't it? You find yourself thinking "So that's where he went to recuperate before Avon caught up with him and shot him!"

Quite an interesting series, and definitely dating from the 1970s. Bought this on DVD a while back. Still not got around to watching all of it yet. Started off very promising, but became a bit cliched towards teh end. Would have been far better if it had been over at least a couple of seasons.
